Paper Minecraft takes the familiar mine-craft-build-survive formula of Minecraft and squeezes it into a 2D side-scrolling sandbox. Players explore the world, dig downward for resources, place blocks, craft equipment, and build structures one layer at a time. The perspective changes, but much of the freedom remains.

What you do depends heavily on your chosen mode. Survival starts you with little and makes food, shelter, tools, resources, and hostile monsters matter. Creative removes that pressure with unlimited building materials and the ability to fly, turning the world into a construction playground. Some versions also include Peaceful, which offers a calmer way to explore and build without hostile mobs.

The 2D format is what gives Paper Minecraft its own personality. Mining becomes more readable, underground exploration feels closer to a platform adventure, and building requires thinking about structures from a side view rather than from every angle.

How to Play Paper Minecraft

There is no single route you have to follow. Your first decisions depend on whether you want to survive the world or simply reshape it.

Mining and Crafting Gameplay

In Survival Mode, gather resources, mine blocks, craft tools and weapons, find food, and build a shelter before exploring farther. Better materials become available as you dig underground, while hostile mobs make equipment and preparation increasingly important.

Creative Mode focuses on sandbox building instead. With unlimited blocks and the 

ability to fly, you can explore freely and construct houses, bases, or larger structures without worrying about resources or survival.
